In February 2011, Guardian Health Care Center, located at 1735 Belmont Avenue in Youngstown, was recognized by US News Magazine (a recognized national leader in college, grad school, hospital, mutual fund, and car rankings) as one of the best nursing homes in the State of Ohio. 

More than 3.2 million Americans will spend at least part of 2011 in one of the nation's 16,000-plus nursing homes. How can those millions of people and their families find a source of good care? To ease the difficult search, U.S. News ranks and displays data about nearly every U.S. nursing facility and updates the information every quarter.

The U.S. News rankings rely on data from Nursing Home Compare, a consumer web site run by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS sets and enforces standards for all nursing homes enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid. The data for Nursing Home Compare come from regular health inspections carried out by state agencies and from the homes themselves. Using that information, CMS assigns an overall ratings of one to five stars to each nursing home, other than a small number too new to have generated meaningful data. Homes are also given one to five stars in how well they do in the health inspections, in providing enough nurses, and providing a high level of quality of care.

In addition to providing skilled nursing, long and short term rehabilitation, we now provide a Alzheimer's Secured Memory Care Unit. King's Way, is designed for those residents with all stages of dementia within a comfortable and secure living environment. In addition to a dining and activity room for the memory impaired, residents enjoy daily social and recreational activities designed to maximize abilities and interests.

King's Way provides a safe homelike atmosphere for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other memory impairments. Our goals are:

• To maximize each Resident's awareness and orientation and their functional abilities through personal care and daily activities.
• To promote each Resident's safety and security in a secured environment with personal attention given by staff members.
• To facilitate social contact through daily recreational, social and spiritual activities.
• To adapt to each stage of the disease or condition.

Just minutes from Saint Elizabeth and Northside Hospitals, one of our most charming characteristics is its strong sense of kinship. Our residents have formed a community within a community. In many cases, friends who have spent lifetimes together on the same city block, find themselves living with one another again at Windsor House at Guardian Health Care Center.
